On Saturday, 24th September, hundreds of people flocked to Cardiff Bay to join in the Family Fun Day to Caerdydd yn ymuno â gweddill Ewrop i ddathlu ieithoedd! celebrate the European Day of Languages.

The Glanfa stage was busy all morning with a programme that included storytelling in different languages and performances from Lansdowne Primary School, Ysgol Pencae, Cantonian High School, Ninian Park Primary School and Darling Buds Nursery.

As well as this, visitors were able to enjoy backstage tours in French, German, Welsh, Italian and Arabic, language taster workshops in Mandarin, Arabic and Italian and some even had a go at Chinese calligraphy.

In the lead up to the event, schools from all over Wales had been sending in newspaper articles in a range of languages – these were all put together to create a very big multi-lingual newspaper which was on display at the event. From Saturday onwards, this was put on display for a week in the Cardiff Central Library for the whole community to enjoy.

To finish the celebration we all came together to sing ‘Hey Jude’ in 5 languages in the Big Sing! It is obvious from the photos on our Flickr page that there were smiles all round and Cardiff very much enjoyed celebrating languages.
