On Friday, 10th December, Year 9 pupils from Blaenau Gwent schools came together at Nantyglo
Comprehensive School to practise their French by attending Christmas themed workshops.
There were 6 sessions on offer to the pupils including writing a letter to Father Christmas, matching the present to the description, making a Christmas card and making (and eating) une Bûche de Noël. The pupils seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sessions and responded well to this chance to use their French.
The morning was organised by the Blaenau Gwent Modern Languages PLC and received funding from Routes into Languages Cymru. This was the first in what will be a series of events that offer Year 9 pupils a chance to use their French language skills. These opportunities will encourage the pupils to think about French as an option for KS4 and will hopefully result in an increase in take-up across this Education Authority.
Routes into Languages Cymru looks to fund small school projects that will raise the profile of language learning. For more information about the funding criteria and how to apply, please visit the ‘activities’ section of our website.
