Bonjour à tous !
Aujourd’hui je vais parler à moi-même et mes rapports. Alors je me présente – je m’appelle Kirsten Förster, j’ai vingt-deux ans, je viens d’Irlande du Nord et maintenant j’habite à Aberystwyth avec mon copain. J’étudie le français, l’allemand et l’espagnol a l’université qui n’est pas facile ! Je pense que j’ai un bon sens de l’humour et je peux être travailleuse quand c’est nécessaire. Je suis très aimable et je m’entends bien avec tout le monde. Avant arriver en France j’étais très nerveuse et je n’avais aucune idée ce que je pouvais m’attendre.
There are several relationships I’ll address in this blog, the first being the two very close friends I made whilst in La Rochelle. I was first introduced to Aoife and Kelvin over a Facebook group chat that was made by someone from the university who was assigned to all of us to help guide us through our first couple of weeks in La Rochelle. Aoife and Kelvin attend Galway University in Ireland, so it was nice to have some friendly familiar accents around me. We lived two minutes from each other in La Rochelle and had all the same classes so there was barely a day that we spent apart. We became close very quickly and I think that this is inevitable when you go on your year abroad; most of the friends you make will be going through all the same emotions and hurdles as you and it creates a bond between you.
Mon expérience à La Rochelle était quelquefois très dure alors c’était très important d’avoir des amis comme Aoife et Kelvin qui étaient là pendant la période de difficulté. Mal du pays est ordinaire et beaucoup de personnes qui ont une année étrange l’auront ; alors à mon avis c’est très utile d’avoir des rapports proches.
I also want to take a part of this blog to mention some of the relationships that I have with friends and loved ones who were not in France as they played just as big a role in my experience there as those who shared the time in La Rochelle with me.
Mon copain s’appelle James et il m’a aidé déménager et m’installer à La Rochelle. C’est très difficile à conserver une relation à distance mais ce que j’aime le plus c’est que j’avais hâte toujours de quelque chose – ses séjours à La Rochelle ! On a fait toujours quelque chose spécial quand il a visité comme on est allés à l’aquarium qui est INCROYABLE. On a passé beaucoup de temps à la plage avec mes amis.
I would also like to talk about some of the friends that are in my classes at university who are also on their year abroad. Chantelle, who is doing British Council as part of her year abroad in beautiful city of Paris and Bronwen who is also doing study placements in Montpellier and later in the year in Dusseldorf.
Malheureusement il y avait une urgence familiale à la fin de novembre et j’ai dû voyager chez moi en Irlande du Nord mais comme à tout chose malheur est bon, j’ai pu visiter mon amie, Chantelle à Paris en retourner à La Rochelle. C’était mon premier fois à Paris et j’ai vu toutes les choses que je toujours voulais voir ! La Tour Eiffel (j’ai pleuré), Champs-Elysées, Le Louvre, L’Arc du Triomphe, Le Moulin Rouge et je suis allée au café du film « Amélie ». C’était comme un rêve ! La meilleure part était passer de temps avec mon amie qui est maintenant comme une vraie parisien !
After my short stay in Paris with Chantelle, I came back briefly to La Rochelle to then head off again to meet up with another friend, Bronwen in Toulouse. We planned our trip weeks in advance and top tip, coaches are so cheap! They might take a while but the scenery on your journey is worth it. We spent a weekend in Toulouse, taking in the sights and enjoying the culture!
Toulouse « ou La Ville en rose » est une ville du Sud-Ouest de la France, alors il y a beaucoup d’influence espagnol ; un exemple est « La basilique (ou basilica) Saint-Sernin ». C’était encore incroyable de pouvoir rencontrer avec une amie et partager notre expérience de l’année étrange.
Everyone tells you that you will become a different person after your year abroad and I definitely had my doubts about that before leaving for France, but it is true. The challenges that come with living in another country that speaks a different language, that has its own different culture will 100% have its effects on you as a person but in the best ways.
Maintenant j’ai davantage confiance en moi, mon français a bien sûr amélioré et je me suis fait beaucoup d’amis qui viennent de tous les coins du monde ! En partant La Rochelle, j’étais très triste et La Rochelle me manque tous les jours ! J’adore la France plus encore qu’auparavant et je vais retourner dès que possible. Quand j’aurai ma licence j’espère que travailler ou habiter encore en France. Je voudrais voyager toute la France et visiter plus de villes comme Lille, Lyon et Nantes. Je pense que je ne pouvais pas avoir une expérience si formidable sans les personnes dans ma vie, en France et en Royaume-Uni.
